held close
to your heart
every beat
a love song
seeing this world –
through its wonders
and darkness finds us all
watching, reading, yet not
grasping how or why, and the
aftermath stabs at the hope
of humanity to rise above
the killing of the innocent
as we return with bleeding
hearts to the news informing
us what we already know
not wanting, to accept reality
remaining shocked to the core
of our spiritual being in this
place of so much confusion,
pain and misled intention
we swear to protect our ideal
stumbling forward in the dark
alleys of this world shining
our heart’s torch hoping, praying
that love, one day, will conquer
and for light to prevail
I dedicate these words to those carrying the memories
of the children whose smiles are no more.
